The new issue of PieceWork is out! When I saw that the topic was Safekeeping: Preserving Needlework Histories I knew that I had to submit an article on textile conservation. My article talks about the conservation of William Gray’s World War I purse. This was the last (and hardest) conservation project that I completed during my studies at the Centre for Textile Conservation. I cover my examination of the object, how I chose the most appropriate treatment, and how I made the purse stable for display. If you would like to learn about the history of an amazing object and how I conserved it check out the latest issue of PieceWork here!
