I discuss when textile conservators need to dye materials and why it’s so important that we do so consistently. I explain why I always use synthetic dyes rather than natural ones to get dependable dye lots. I also emphasize the importance of prep work, sampling, and note taking. And, as with all crafting, the key to dyeing is practice!
